About us
The human remains SSN is a network providing mutual support and information transfer between individuals representing institutions that hold accessioned collections of human remains. Its emphasis is on skill sharing, advice, and training for those working with human remains in a museum context. Around 30 UK institutions are members. A committee within the SSN responds on its behalf to requests for information, whether from DCMS or other bodies or individuals; however the group is focused on the practical issues facing museum professional and does not provide formal policy advice. This site brings together relevant documents and websites dealing, including collection lists; policy documents; conference papers; cases studies and links to relevant UK and international sites. Future resources in planning include FAQs on the care of human remains within museum collections; lists of current research projects; FAQs for students seeking research projects. We welcome new links and resources. Contact us here.
